  • My role is Engineering Manager at XXXXX XXXXX Head Office. This is home to 3500 staff and is a large modern office facility and banking complex, along with two data centres. I lead the M&E maintenance provision for the xxxxx xxxxx main office and the national store network of 75 stores and lounges. This service is undertaken using a dedicated inhouse team along with support from specialist subcontractors. I am also responsible for the delivery of £1.5m of projects which includes Air Source Heat Pump installations, Chiller replacements, Automatic Door upgrades, Gas Suppression replacement in the data centre, and various lift upgrades across the store network nationally. I transferred as part of Tupe from XXXXXXXXXXXXXX in April 2018 and enjoy the same role, albeit for a different company

University of Northumbria

  • In December 2015 xxxxx were successful in the tendering process for the full hard FM to 52 academic and principle buildings across two campus’ for Northumbria University. The estate ranged from Grade II listed to brand new ‘BREAM excellent’ buildings
  • The value and size of this contract is Maintenance £700k, extra works £1.3M and Projects £1M. I was responsible for managing the mobilisation of this contract, including the TUPE transfer of 14 staff, then the subsequent operational management
  • I was responsible for the day to day operational management and ensuring the campus was statutory compliant, and all reactive calls and maintenance visits were undertaken within SLA period
  • 25 staff were based on the contract, including M&E and Fabric supervisors, helpdesk manager, helpdesk and contract support staff, apprentices, and a full range of engineering staff including a/c, gas, electrical plumbers fabric team and maintenance assistants. Support is provided by specialist sub-contractors

  • The contract received approximately 8,000 reactive calls per annum, and provided around 10,000 pre-planned maintenance visits per year
  • The academic buildings are a assorted range which included the obvious teaching and administrate areas, but also included a range of diverse plant and equipment such as a complex HV electrical network, LV network with Generators and UPSs, CHPs, a large Sports centre including a swimming pool with movable floor which requires a dive team to undertake annual inspections, members of the public, movable seating in the sports centre, Workshop machinery & LEVs and various heating and cooling plant
  • Notable achievements: I was given an Award for procurement and tendering process of the supply chain for the specialist subcontracts, and subsequent savings borne out of this exercise, as part of the contract mobilisation. The process I used for the tendering was rolled out across the business unit and adopted by other contracts


  • Located in Alnwick, Northumberland, xxxxxx held a maintenance contract to undertake planned and reactive maintenance to this pharmaceutical plant. This was managed at the same time as the NHS North of Tyne and was operated using a site-based team of 3 engineering staff, along with a supervisor. The contract value was approx. £200k and was for the service of mechanical and electric system, along with various specialist plant such as LEVs, Steam boilers, specialist process control, laboratories and autoclaves. Unfortunately, this site was sold leading to the end of the contract

NHS North of Tyne

  • I started with xxxxxxxxx in June 2013 as contract manager on the NHS North of Tyne contract. The contract covered 60 properties ranging (mostly) of health centres, office space and storage space. These properties were located from Berwick upon Tweed, to Tynemouth and to Whitehaven. I was responsible for the management of the hard services to all of the properties, including statutory compliance and ensuring all planned and reactive maintenance visits are undertaken, all electrical, mechanical, HVAC and BMS inspections are undertaken, DDA compliance, hydro therapy swimming pools and all to a more stringent set of health specific rules (HTMs)
  • My responsibilities included grounds maintenance and gritting to cover at all of these health centres, along with a 24 hr call out service
  • The contract was staffed by 14 members of staff from a range of engineers, project managers, administration and helpdesk, supervisors and lead engineer. Support was provided by a range of specialist contractors. We provided approximately 1000 planned maintenance visits per month, along with approximately 400 reactive calls
  • I was responsible for ensuring the recruitment, training, and all local HR issues were dealt with appropriately
  • The Value of the NHS North of Tyne was: Maintenance £900k, Extra Works £750k and Projects of£3M
  • Other responsibility included billing and debt control, fleet management of the 8 Vehicles assigned to the contract
  • Notable achievements – I was awarded my directors watch after the NHS customer described the contract and service delivery as ‘exceptional’
