The Role

We are recruiting for a Multi-Skilled HVAC Engineer to join an established facilities maintenance team at a large, high-profile commercial site in Nottingham.

This is a predominantly mechanical HVAC/building services position, working across a substantial estate with over 100 AHUs and a wide variety of associated plant and equipment. Air conditioning is maintained by a specialist subcontractor, so the position is ideally suited to an engineer with strong experience across AHUs, chilled water systems, pumps, pipework and HVAC controls.

You will join an established team of 12 engineers and take responsibility for planned and reactive maintenance across the site. Due to the size and workload of the site, we are looking for someone who is comfortable taking ownership of their work, prioritising jobs and seeing tasks through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across HVAC and mechanical building services.
• Maintain and fault-find on AHUs, chilled water systems, pumps, temperature sensors, pressure systems and actuators.
• Carry out general plumbing, pipework and mechanical maintenance.
• Diagnose faults and identify appropriate repairs or replacement parts.
• Monitor plant performance and help improve reliability and efficiency.
• Use the BMS to monitor building conditions and assist with fault diagnosis.
• Prioritise reactive and planned maintenance tasks across a busy site.
• Identify and order materials and critical spares required to complete works.
• Complete relevant maintenance documentation, permits, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Liaise with supervisors, colleagues and specialist subcontractors.
• Support the wider engineering team where required.
• Participate in the site's callout rota following completion of the first three months.

The original specification also includes responsibility for risk assessments, permits, CAFM documentation and supervision of subcontractors, which I've retained without making the JD overly corporate.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

• Level 3 mechanical/HVAC/building services qualification or equivalent.
• Strong previous experience within HVAC or mechanical building services maintenance.
• Good working knowledge of AHUs and associated HVAC plant.
• Experience with chilled water, pumps, pipework and mechanical systems.
• Strong fault-finding ability.
• Comfortable working within a multi-skilled maintenance environment.
• Able to work independently, manage workload and prioritise jobs effectively.

Desirable:

• BMS experience.
• HVAC controls experience.
• IPAF / PASMA.
• Working at Height qualification.
• Previous experience within a large commercial or industrial site.

The supplied specification lists a recognised/time-served apprenticeship, mechanical qualifications to City & Guilds standard, HVAC maintenance experience, fault finding and multi-skilled ability, with BMS, controls, IPAF/PASMA and AP qualifications desirable.

Callout & Overtime

After the first three months, you will join the site's callout rota.

• Callout runs Friday 17:00 to the following Friday 08:00.
• £136 additional payment for each week on call.
• Any callout attendance is paid at a minimum of four hours' overtime.
• Overtime is paid at time-and-a-half or double time, depending on the day.
• Significant overtime and out-of-hours work is available for engineers looking to increase their earnings.

This is a large site — approximately two miles from one side to the other — with a significant maintenance workload. You'll therefore need to be comfortable working across a large estate and managing a busy day.

We're particularly interested in engineers who take ownership rather than simply waiting for jobs to be allocated. You'll be expected to assess priorities, organise materials, manage your workload and work closely with the rest of the engineering team.
