Grounds Maintenance Manager

Our client, who are one of the UK's Leading Facilities and Construction companies and employ over 5,000 multi-skilled engineers and support staff are currently looking to recruit for a Grounds Maintenance Manager.

The post holder will be required to manage and deliver a Grounds Maintenance service to contracts in Scotland and work with the Operations Director in identifying potential new business from existing contracts and in Scotland.


  • Manage the day to day delivery of Grounds Maintenance services
  • Develop service specific policies and operational procedures
  • Develop and manage a grounds maintenance pricing schedule suitable for both internal and external clients and be responsible for pricing and delivering grounds works projects
  • Responsible for the procurement and maintenance of all tools and equipment used in the provision of the service ensuring safe and efficient VFM operation
  • Liaise with Client Representatives and Contract Managers ensuring positive constructive relationships based on good service delivery
  • Recruit, manage and develop/train staff
  • Monitor performance and provide formal monthly reports to the Operations Director confirming compliance with the requirements of the contract and identifying issues for discussion
  • Practice effective risk management, establishing controls, procedures, health and safety systems, audits etc which ensure that services are compliant with legislation and that contingency plans are in place
  • To operate at all times with safe working practices with due regard to Health & Safety Regulations, COSHH, Environmental issues and Waste Disposal etc in accordance with legislative requirements and company policies and procedures.

Communications and Working Relationships:

  • Very regular communication with the Operations Director and other members of the Operational Team
  • Regular communication with Contract Managers
  • Regular communication with client representatives and their advisors
  • Regular communication with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Occasional communication with members of the Senior Management Team

Candidate Requirements:

  • Relevant Degree/Diploma/HND/HNC or professional vocational qualifications within a Grounds Maintenance or Horticulture discipline or equivalent experience
  • Management of Grounds Maintenance services with practical problem solving, property maintenance and external grounds projects experience
  • Experience of hard and soft landscaping
  • Experience in the delivery of amenity horticulture services
  • And should display competencies to:

  • Operate effective IT systems
  • Plan and deliver effective grounds maintenance programmes
  • Prepare budgets and manage expenditure to deliver favourable outcomes
  • Communicate effectively at a professional level with client representatives at all levels
